From the field

On our last evening near Namiri Plains, the light almost spent, a mother cheetah walked out of the grass and stopped to scan the plains while the sun turned the whole field to gold. I had a few minutes before the dark took it. Cheetahs need wide, open ground to survive, and that ground is thinning year by year. An image like this is a record of a place while it still holds animals like her.
